The foreseeable future....

For the foreseeable future, I am shutting down this blog.  Since I have not posted in a while, it is safe to assume that there will not be any new posts in the coming weeks.  I will be working on these ideas offline and I hope to have something posted here in the months to come.  Thank you for looking in on me and I hope to see you again soon.

Lady Darkness, Part 1.

The air was thick, as the fog machines pumped blue-grey smoke into the room. This was her domain, she was queen here; Lady D glided through the room, assessed her subjects, and looked for the perfect donor. She was on a constant quest for the perfect person to give a blood sacrifice to her coven. She thought of that special person and the way they would look at her; it warmed her, almost as much as the blood would warm her. Lady D stopped in the middle of the dance floor; members of her inner circle surrounded her. She was a small pale woman with flame red hair; her followers towered over her, but they hung on her every word. The power she held over them, the blood power, was cultish and frightful; yet she loved each of them as though she were their mother. The blood sacrifice is what brought the coven together and Lady D could deliver like no other; she was a skilled saleswoman and many joked that she could talk the Pope into giving a blood sacrifice.

For Lady D and her coven, blood was not a means of survival but a means of power. The real world, as far as they knew, did not contain actual vampires, the creatures of lore and homoerotic fantasy. They knew of two kinds of vampires: lifestyle and sanguine. Lady D and her coven were sanguine vampires and to them, blood was a powerful and intimate gift to be shared amongst the willing. The blood sacrifice was more personal and even more spiritual than sex; it showed true devotion with the gift of life force.

Potential donors lined up to stand in judgment before Lady D. She had dozens to choose from, but there was a young woman who caught her eye. Lady D recognized the wonder and fear in the girl’s eyes; it brought back memories of the first time a young woman named Danielle walked into this bar. She hadn’t gone by Danielle in such a long time; no one in the coven knew her real name, they only knew her as Lady Darkness or Lady D, for short. Lady D decided to take the girl under her wing and turn the blood sacrifice into an initiation; there was always room for one more in the coven.

Lady D stood on her tiptoes and whispered to her second in command, “Lord Stefan, could you make sure the girl is prepared and have the others meet me in the Initiation Room in, say, an hour?”

Stefan nodded and swiftly made his way to the girl. A jolt of electric excitement ran up Lady D’s spine; there hadn’t been an initiation in at least a year. This would be a special occasion, so she made her way to the bar and ordered an absinthe. The bar tender slid Lady D her drink and when she tried to pay, a long thin hand shot forward and put $20 on the bar. Startled, she turned to see who paid for her drink. She caught her breath when she looked in his eyes, he was magnificent. The eyes that she looked into were ice blue and appeared to glow in the dark. He stood out among the other patrons of the club, with his medium wash jeans and polo shirt. Lady D had seen guys like this in here before, but they were usually looking for freaky Goth sex and didn’t hang around long.

He took her hand and kissed it, then introduced himself, “My name is Josef Potecz. I am pleased to meet the Lady of Darkness.”

Josef’s sultry Slavic accent had hypnotized her; she couldn’t find words to reply to his introduction, so she smiled and lowered her eyes. A flush came to her cheeks and she was thankful for the low lighting. She wasn’t embarrassed that she found him attractive; she was embarrassed that he caught her off-guard. She didn’t want to leave his side, but there was a deep-seated fear that started to build in her chest. Josef was dangerous, but he was magnetic and she couldn’t bring herself to look away; there was something about who he was that she wanted for herself.

Excuses, excuses.

I know, I promised a story installment yesterday. I would go into detail about why it didn't happen, but I'm sure you don't want to hear excuses. The installment is in the works right now, and will hopefully be posted a little later today. Hang in there, it's coming.

Technical difficulties.

Due to technical difficulties (i.e. the stupid DSL has been acting up all day) I will be moving the weekly story posts to Mondays.  Check back tomorrow for the first installment of The Vampire Cycle.

A little slow to start.

Writing every day is hard enough, but throw a blog into it and it makes it even more daunting.  Moving forward, I may only post to this site once a week.  That weekly post, however, will be the serialization of a new story that I'm working on.  This story will be part of The Vampire Cycle; or at least that's the working title.  Through these serializations, I hope to introduce readers to a new world of vampires; a world they didn't know existed, until now.  So, check back every week and as I always, I look forward to taking this journey with you.

The first of many...

This will be the first of many posts.  I'll be throwing out ideas and character sketches and looking for feedback from potential readers.  I look forward to the journey.
